Thank you to everyone who came to see us at the Food and Drink Fair at Hardwick Hall.  We enjoyed it – meeting new people, selling some of the artists’ works and…… tasting all that was on offer in the food tent!

This weekend my friend is dragging me off to Brighton to see what the coffee shops in Brighton have that we haven’t got.  Okay, ‘dragging’ may be the wrong word.  My suitcase is packed.  I’ve got sweets for the journey.  And the  money I was given for Mother’s Day is tucked away safely in case the perfect item presents itself.

BEANS will be at the Derbyshire Food and Drink Fair at Hardwick Hall this weekend – Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd May.  We’ll be in the craft tent with work from all of our artists for sale – and we’ll have course leaflets available too.  Come and say hello.

A lesson to be learned.  If you don’t keep up with your blog, you end up mixing topics like silver rings and poets.  I’ll start at the beginning.

Last Sunday, (8th May) Jessica Noonan treated us to another Silver Ring making workshop.  This time, the choice was yours.  Make 2 silver rings or make one ring with a stone.  Both offers were taken up and we had some beautiful finished pieces.  There was a fair bit of sawing, hammering, soldering, sanding and polishing first though.  But it was worth it!

And then the Poets.

Last Friday, a group of poets and/or poem appreciators gathered upstairs at BEANS to read a poem (or two)…..   and/or to listen to poems read by others.  There were poems about miners, pets, war, shoes, women, ward sisters, turning 50 and…..  well, I can’t remember them all.  But it was good and there was a lot of laughing and thinking and even time for some chatting.  So….. we’re going to do it again.  Obviously it won’t be exactly the same – new and different poems are calling us.  If you’d like to come along, the next Share a Poem Evening is on 24th June from 7 – 9 pm.  We have an 8.30 watershed – well, you know what poets are like.  You can read a poem you’ve written – one written by someone else – or just sit and listen.  It reminds you just how powerful, moving, funny and fun words can be.  And the people are nice too!

One of our artists, Steph Harvey, will be at the Arts and Crafts Exhibition at Ashover Parish Hall on Monday, 2nd May from 11am to 4pm.  Steph will be there with her books and silk printing – and there will also be ceramics, photography, papier mache and other work.  Pop in and see!

At BEANS, our next knitting afternoon is on Wednesday, 18th May from 1 -3pm.  Rose from Needles and Pins will be on hand to help you get started, carry on, cast off or learn some new techniques.  Bring whatever you’re working on – or would like to work on…. or just turn up and sample some of the yarns.  Free!

Coffee, craft and chat will be meeting again at BEANS on Monday, 23 May (10am -12pm).  £2.50 includes a coffee and biscuit.  Work on your latest project, share ideas and enjoy a morning out.
